My Story

I grew up in Montevallo, Alabama and went away to college as a first-generation college student. I was fortunate enough to attend the Florida A&M University and had a life changing experience attending this HBCU ! I pursued graduate studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (Master of Science in Health Administration) as well as Rockhurst University (MBA in Marketing) and am a firm believer in education as the great equalizer.

With graduate degrees in tow, I embarked on my health care leadership career as an Administrative Resident at a large Level 1 trauma center in the Midwest. After several years at that hospital in entry level management and CEO support roles, I was accepted into a highly competitive and very selective Executive Development cohort (the Chief Operating Officer Development Program) with a Fortune 500 hospital management company. It was here that my career advancement accelerated.

Having acquired experience as a senior hospital executive in competitive markets around the country, including roles such as associate administrator, vice president of operations, vice president and professional services officer, and chief operating officer, I was promoted into a senior leadership role at a regional health system. After a 15 year career trajectory, I launched Watch Me EXCEL® in the Summer of 2020 during the height of social and civil unrest. In 2021, I became a full time entrepreneur.

Without a doubt, ongoing professional development + having access to mentors and sponsors helped open the door for me to ascend up the corporate ladder. Because of my own experiences, I am a staunch advocate for organizations to invest in ongoing professional development opportunities for their C Suite executives and leaders deeper within the organization.

In addition, and here is where my passions run super high - disrupting norms in terms of workplace culture, dynamics and politics - is something I talk about regularly because so many leaders and employees are stuck in toxic workplaces that are doing grave injustices to their mental and emotional wellbeing. To that end, sharing tools for organizations and individual working professionals on how to navigate these dynamics is where I deeply want to serve and make impact.

Although my #1 priority is my faith and then my family…honestly, there were a variety of challenges I experienced along the way balancing the demands of career, family and even volunteer and board service.

My life’s ministry is to continue to advocate not only for health equity but also leadership equity, so that other exceptional leaders can realize their goals of getting to the C Suite and succeeding once you have arrived.
